The Ogun State Government has disclosed its readiness at protecting customer’s right across the State by introducing new measurement bowl for gauging grains and other food stuff in the market towards ensuring standard and curbing fraudulent acts.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru who said this in Abeokuta at a meeting with market leaders from the three senatorial districts of the State noted that the parley was to discuss and work out modalities towards ensuring that all market women and men embrace the new measurement bowl in the State.
‘’Consumers are not getting value for their money and this must change. If you are buying a kongo of rice, it must be a kongo without doubt,’’ he said.
The Commissioner explained that government was not going to enforce the sellers to adopt the bowl but would educate and enlighten them on the importance of having a common measurement bowl in the State.
He noted that the new initiative as matter of fact would usher in better benefits for the consumers and the seller and also bring about development to markets across the State.
The Iyalaje Akile Ijebu, Alhaja Fausat Alatise commended the State government for the new initiative, urging other market leaders to support government’s effort at protecting consumers right by taking samples of the bowl for trial at their various markets.
