Operators of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) have continued to suffer setback in their business, due to continued drop in the network’s subscriber number.
While the CDMA operators continue to suffer loss of subscriber number, bringing the total number of CDMA subscription to two million and fifty seven thousand, five hundred and nineteen (2,057,519), as at July this year, the GSM operators continue to increase in subscriber number, bringing the total number of active GSM subscribers to one hundred and forty eight million, four hundred and ninety five thousand, two hundred and five (148,495,205), as at July this year.
While MTN, Globacom, Airtel and Etisalat, are the players in the GSM space, only Visafone and MultiLinks are the remaining players in the CDMA market space. CDMA operators like Bodex Telecoms, Cellcomm, Intercellular, Zoom Mobile and Starcomms, have been completely grounded as a result of harsh business environment, leaving Visafone with a little above 2 million subscribers and MultiLinks with a little above 10,000 subscribers to struggle for market relevance.
CDMA operations have been hampered as a result of unfavourable business environment, while operators of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) are having a field day as their subscriber number continues to swell every year.
The situation with CDMA operators is really bad and pathetic and government needs to act fast in order to save it from total collapse, the source said.
